Dr Ashar Khan is a Specialist Psychiatrist, Director and Founder of Queensland ADHD and Neurosciences Clinic. Dr Khan first recognised the vast prevalence of undetected ADHD during his addiction training. Dr Khan observed similar patterns of lack of recognition, early detection and diagnosis, a one-stop specialist platform for early diagnostic detection and treatment intervention specifically for ADHD, autism or other specific learning disorders. Queensland ADHD & Neurosciences Clinic was set up as a novel unique clinic allowing top experts in neuro-developmental disorders using a cutting-edge scientific approach in keeping with modern research and international guidelines.

Dr Khan is a Sub-Specialist in Neurocognitive Disorders for children, adolescents and adults, offering expertise in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders including Aspergers, specific learning deficits and the dual diagnosis of Neurocognitive Developmental Disorders co-existing with addiction behaviour.

During this episode Dr Khan outlines the prevalence of ADHD in society and amongst athletes, how to diagnose ADHD and what are the three key attributes or characteristics of the ADHD brain. Dr Khan shares around the biology of the ADHD brain and explains why it is that the ADHD brain will always crave dopamine, why ADHD brains are not necessarily addicted to exercise, but rather will display or exhibit addictive behaviours and why it's important to make that distinction. Dr Khan explains the pros to being able to hyper focus that come alongside the ADHD brain, and the cons and he shares why it is that ADHD sufferers so often experience depression and anxiety.

In episode 279 of The Physical Performance Show Brad Beer shares a conversation with Greg Bennett (OLY) 2002 & 2003 ITU World Cup Triathlon Series Champion on this Featured Performer episode.

Greg competed professionally across 28 years from the age of 18 to 44.  In that time, Greg has amassed a sporting resume like very few triathletes in history. Greg is the highest placed male finisher in an Olympic Games event for Australia, finishing fourth at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Greg started 82 ITU World Cup events, won six of those and was on the podium 23 times. Greg represented Australia at 13 World Championships at an elite level, three World Duathlon Championships with a silver medal in 2002 and two Goodwill Games. Greg won the world's richest ever triathlon prize purse in 2007 by clean sweeping five out of five for the Lifetime Fitness Grand Slam.

In 2003 and 2007 Greg was voted Triathlete of the Year by Triathlete Magazine. Greg has been voted as a Top 15 Greatest Triathlete of all time by Inside Triathlon Magazine in 2012. In 2002 and 2003 Greg was the ITU World Cup Series Overall Champion.

Greg touches on the power of absolute passion, why it's important to hone your craft through racing, along with the dark days of narrowly missing Sydney Olympic Games 2000 selection for the Australian Triathlon team.

Greg shares around why it is important to turn up and do the work every day, why something is better than nothing and as Greg states week in and week out on his very own podcast ‘the Greg Bennett Show’ why it is that success comes to those who endure for just a moment more. Greg issues a great physical challenge, top three tips for longevity and an incredible story about the hardest training session.

Amy shares around how we can optimise our skeletal or bone health across our lifespan, what can we do pre puberty, what can we do as adults and what can we do post menopause and as Amy states MANopause for the blokes in order to ensure we have optimal skeletal health in lower likelihood or mobility associated with low bone density or poor bone health such as osteopenia or osteoporosis.

Amy works alongside former featured expert of the show Professor Belinda Beck. Amy has outputted greater than 20 publications in her burgeoning research career. In one landmark study, which she co collaborated with her Griffith University Research colleagues, Professor Belinda Beck and Associate Professor Ben Weeks was called the LIFTMOR M trial, this trial explored the effects of supervised high intensity resistance and impact training on the bone geometry and strength in middle aged and older men with low bone mass. Amy and her research team at Griffith University Men's Health Institute discovered a real dearth in the literature around the role of exercise in helping men with low bone mass post MANopause.

Amy outlines the role that exercise plays in terms of adapting our skeletons, the keys in optimizing our skeletal health pre puberty, why it's important to look at maintaining maximising bone health as an adult and then ways that we can fight the decline post menopause or MANopause in terms of our bone health. Amy shares why high intensity low repetition exercise is so important and why high repetition low resistance exercise doesn't produce the same positive results on bone adaptation. Amy encourages us that it is never too late to improve our bone health.
